The Abstracts of Topics The First National Energy Efficiency Forum has been held-------------22 As part of the National Energy Efficiency lnitiative, 1 st National Energy Efficiency Forum has been held at lstanbul Wow Convention Genler between 15-16 January 2009. The forum was organized by EIE and was attended by about 2,500 visitors. Among the visitors of the forum were; Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Dr. M. Hilmi Güler, Minister of Public Works Faruk Nafız Özak, TÜBİTAK President Nükhet Yetiş, Chairman of TBMM Commission of lndustry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, lnformation and Technology Dr. Soner Aksoy; representatives Ali Bayramoğlu, Alim Işık, Mustafa Öztürk, Ali Rıza Alaboyun, Musa Sıvacıoğlu, Cüneyt Yüksel, and Mehmet Beyazıt Denizolgun, as well as representatives from other countries, representatives of private organizations and nongovernmental organizations and academicians. A Declaration as to Safe Natural Gas Usage from DOSİDER----------------28 Natural Gas Equipment Manufacturers and Businessmen Association-DOSIDER, made a written declaration in relation to the inciden! whereby 7 university students died due to carbon monoxide intoxication due to natural gas in Ankara recently. in the declaration, DOSIDER officials indicated their grievances and stated as follows "On behalf of DOSIDER and its member organizations, we share the grievances of their families and we express our condolences". Benchmark of the Natural Gas Sector: UGETAM---32 UGETAM A.Ş which was operating as part of İGDAŞ previously, departed from İGDAŞ in 2008 and started operating as an independent company. We talked with UGETAM A.Ş, General Manager Serkan Keleşer about the process of founding the new company and their goals for the coming term Keleşer emphasized that UGETAM is a service-oriented company and said "UGETAM has a significant accumulation of experience and knowledge. This experience and knowledge will be meaningful only if it is utilized. Our goal is to make everyone who needs this experience and knowledge, be able to utilize it". More efficient usage of energy helps decrease the climate changes caused by greenhouse gases, decrease energy costs and improving energy supply security. A great portion of the energy used in the buildings, is used tor heating and preparing hot water. With modernization of the heating systems along with betler insulation in old buildings as well as more efficient energy consumption, will bring energy efficiency while contributing to environmental protection. The recent study conducted by the Ministry of Energy indicates that such a strategy might yield energy savings of 30% in buildings, 20% in industry and 15% in transportation and that projects aimed at increasing energy efficiency has the potential of saving 7.5 billion YTL to the national economy. 8 Ooğalgaz Dergisi Ocak-Şubat / January-February 2009
